Before choosing your removalist, you must be very careful and do thorough research. There are so many shady tricks that can be used to con you. Here are still more facts some removalists don’t want you to know.
If you have movers insurance, get a special extra attached to an existing policy instead of a separate one. Many moving insurance policies limit damage claims on a weight ratio, which means you may get poorly compensated.
Also, if you don’t check everything before signing off on the delivery and you later discover damage, it won’t be accepted by an insurance company because, on paper, there was no damage.
Take every necessary step to ensure the removalist you choose is legitimate. Physically visit their premises or ask someone else to do so. Check their details online and see if there are reviews about them. Ensure their trucks are sign-written.
The really bad operators can load up your goods, drive off and then steal everything and hide it all or sell some of it. If you feel anything is dodgy about a prospective company, don’t use them.
Never pay a deposit and never pay in cash or you have no official transaction confirmation. If they only take cash, that’s a danger signal. Never sign a partial contract. Check out their claims policy so you know you can make a claim if necessary.
Where possible, use a company that’s referred to you by someone you trust. It’s the wisest way to find a legitimate removalist. There are so many things that can go wrong during a move. Check your facts thoroughly and be cautious about any decisions you make.

Because there are so many different tricks that dodgy removalists can use, you’ll find more than one post here about their tactics. Here are some more facts some removalists don’t want you to know.
They could find ways to charge you for extras that you weren’t aware of. If they can’t park their truck close to the entrance at either end, it can take longer to move everything.
This increases the hourly rate and will impact on flat fee quotes as well. Stairs and elevators are often a cause of extra delays, as are large, heavy and awkward items.
If you’re moving to another state, sometimes a company will outsource the job to two other companies with smaller trucks and you may find one truck turns up at the destination with half your goods and no idea where the rest of them are. If a company does give your job to someone else, they must notify you beforehand.

Make sure you have a complete inventory check list and mark off everything that’s loaded and confirm that everything is actually delivered. Sometimes items of value can “disappear” somewhere between the pick up and delivery point.

You may book a certain time but they could turn up late. For example, you may book an early afternoon time and they could arrive as it’s getting dark. That will inevitably increase the loading time and cost.

Sometimes they just don’t turn up at all and so you have to try and contact them and play the waiting game because everywhere else is already booked out.

There are plenty more facts some removalists don’t want you to know. Always check, double and triple check everything before agreeing or signing anything.

When booking your removalist company, check any items that may be either difficult to transport or completely banned. The reason why removalists have certain restrictions is for safety.

There are two types of restrictions. The first type is items that may need special handling and only certain carriers with extra equipment and expertise will agree to move such items. These include: pianos, pool tables, antiques and live plants. If you have such items, always ask before making a booking.

Then you have the extensive list of things that no carrier will transport. Naturally they can’t put live pets into the back of a truck. Put them in your car or make other arrangements.

They can’t move anything flammable or combustible. This includes: any fuel cans or tanks, torch oil or items with fuel inside them such as lawn mowers. Drain the fuel from the mower for safe transportation. Pesticides, fertilizers and any other hazardous or toxic chemicals are also forbidden.

Restrictions are in place to protect the carriers and the customers. Safety is a vital concern during every trip and certain standards must be maintained, regardless of the length of the trip. This is why you need to make a comprehensive list before you even start contacting removalists.

When you make enquiries, ask questions about possible restrictions to prevent problems arising on the day. It would be a disaster if you had items that your removalist simply couldn’t handle and you hadn’t bothered to check beforehand.

Many things can be done a week or two before the move but you need a check list to avoid overlooking something critical. Organise the post office to redirect your mail. Home, contents, life and car insurances and registration all need to be changed. Medicare and any private health insurance provider you belong to must be advised of change of address. You’ll need to enrol to vote in the different electorate.

Any home deliveries such as newspaper or food deliveries need to be cancelled. Physical mailing lists need to be advised as a post office redirection only lasts for six months. Your doctors and other medical people must be notified and organise your medical records to be forwarded to a new doctor as soon as possible.

If you receive any Centrelink payments, they must be notified in writing, as does the tax office. If you’re only moving locally, you’ll need to advise your employer(s) and the same applies to your children’s schools.

Remember to tell friends and family as well. Listing the extra things to remember when changing address will make the transition a lot less stressful.

We are happy to announce this new service:

Managed Document Storage
Managed Document Storage service for documents and records is much more than simply placing archives into a place in a warehouse and forgetting about them. What we offer our clients is a cost effective way to manage the whole life cycle of information.
Storage of business records is a large part of what we do and the benefits to business include:
Better use of office space and storage areas. We are able to store documents at a cost much lower than prime office space or even office storage areas like cordoned off car park areas.

Less clutter. Storing documents externally means office space can be better utilised and space isn’t wasted unnecessarily because paper based documents can take up a lot of space and gather dust, not to mention the possible fire hazard.
But the greatest benefit is the outsourcing of the entire management process. As organisations grow, the tasks of migrating archives to storage, retrieving needed documents from archives, implementing retention policies and removing expired records for destruction can become quite a burden. Staff have to be found to move the often heavy boxes around which can create problems. The time spent by staff looking after the records management process can often be put to better use.
